Akhir tahun, dan rutinitas yang tidak terelakkan di industri game pun mulai terjadi. Benar sekali, kita berbicara soal pemilihan game-game mana yang pantas disebut sebagai “Game of the Year” dari beragam pihak, dari media, gamer, ataupun organisasi yang bersangkutan. Di tahun 2017 ini, siapa yang berhak memenangkan penghargaan bergengsi ini tentu saja menarik untuk disimak, apalagi mengingat lusinan game keren yang dirilis di beragam platform yang ada. Salah satu penghargaan yang cukup bergengsi – The Golden Joystick Awards memulai proses ini. Mereka akhirnya memilih Game of the Year dan ragam game pemenang untuk variasi kategori yang ada.

Seperti yang bisa diprediksi, satu dari dua game terfavorit Nintendo Switch memenangkan penghargaan puncak – Game of the Year. Sementara award untuk Lifetime Achievement diserahkan kepada sosok Sid Meier yang sepertinya tidak akan asing lagi untuk sebagian besar dari gamer, mengingat namanya menyertai hampir semua karya populer yang ada, seperti Civilization misalnya. Namun memang harus dicatat, pilhan pemenang untuk Golden Joystick Awards untuk tahun ini memang memicu sedikit kontroversi di dunia maya karena keputusan yang dianggap aneh dan dipertanyakan.
